Set in a time of deep racial segregation and gender discrimination, the play sheds light on Dr. Wakefield's journey as she navigates the tumultuous landscape of the medical field.
In this celebratory tribute, we honor the incredible contributions and achievements of African American women throughout history. From the trailblazers of the past, like Sojourner Truth, to the inspiring figures of the present, such as Solange Knowles, these remarkable women have left an indelible mark on society. As part of this tribute, we will also include an excerpt from "The Forgotten Healer", highlighting the resilience and strength of African American women.
The Quarters Musical by Ed Tiger Verdin with original music by Kenneth Perry goes beyond mere conversation starting and attempts to portray the Whole History of Slavery in the Deep South. The musical narrates the journey from Africa to a sugar plantation in South Louisiana, where enslaved mother Ifoema and her biracial son Chike face the daily struggles of forced servitude. Unlike idealized portrayals of slavery, THE QUARTERS celebrates the contributions and life of enslaved Africans.
Verdin & Perry team up once again for this compelling portrayal of a lesser-known WWII mission, Operation Jubilee. The play focuses on 2nd Lt. Edward Loustalot, 1st Battalion Army Ranger, the first American soldier killed in WWII, and offers a unique perspective on the operation as a whole and the formation of the U.S. Army Rangers in Carrifergus, Northern Ireland.
